Demonstration Alert – U. S. Embassy Accra, Ghana

Location 1 (Tonight): The Ghana Police Headquarters area, including the Ring Road at the Independence junction in Accra, Ghana.

Event 1 (Tonight): Ongoing demonstrations taking place as of 18:00 today, Tuesday March 27, 2018.

Location 2 (Tomorrow): Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to, the areas from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Arts Center in Accra, Ghana.

Event 2 (Tomorrow): Demonstrations expected to take place on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, beginning after 06:00am. The Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) intends to protest the parliament’s approval of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) between the United States and Ghana. Approximately 200 demonstrators are expected.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
