Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Food and Drug Administration, the Honorable Delese Mimi Darko;

Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority, the Honorable Alexander Nii Otoo Dodoo;

Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Joyce Dontwi

President of the American Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Joe Mensah;

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen;

All protocols observed.

It is an honor to join you here tonight to promote American beef, wine, and rice to Ghanaian consumers.  We Americans are proud to offer the highest quality products to consumers around the world.  When you buy American, you can be confident that you are buying the finest products in the global market.

We meet in this beautiful venue filled with the aromas and flavors that are quintessentially American, but increasingly in demand all over the world.  We invite you to buy American beef and rice, and to enjoy the world-renowned wines from California’s vineyards.

Beef, wine, and rice are staples of the American diet.  We know that these food items have become a more regular part of the Ghanaian diet as well.  My U.S. Department of Agriculture office at the U.S. embassy has taken note of the increasing interest and consumption of these food items in Ghana.

America’s farmers and ranchers are ready to meet your standards and demands as consumers.

American products offer the highest quality available while also meeting the most stringent safety and quality standards.  We hope that by introducing you to our products, you will add them to your supply chain, from Ghanaian supermarkets to the dinner tables of Ghanaian families.

The United States is pleased to support the U.S. Meat Export Federation, Midamar Beef, USA Rice, E&J Gallo Wines, and of course our host, the Accra Marriott as they present the best of their product lines for your sampling pleasure.  Each of these organizations focus on increasing global access to these premium products by supporting market promotion events such as this.  This is the U.S. Meat Export Federation’s second promotional event in Accra, and we are excited to welcome them again.

While this event is a feature of American cuisine and ingredients and its importance to the Ghanaian market, a constant theme across all cuisines and cultures is that good food and drink brings people together.  I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible to thank you for joining us tonight, as well as to learn about your businesses and interest in American products.

Thank you.
