U.S. Deepens Support for Ghanaian Children with Season 2 of Kofi Kommando Animated TV show
Popular cartoon series promotes healthy behaviors and inclusivity

Northern Region, Ghana – The United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is launching Season 2 of Kommando in partnership with the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana Education Service, UNICEF,  the Embassy of Denmark, and the Canadian Government.  Through a series of events in northern Ghana, program partners are bringing Season 2 of the animated series to young Ghanaians.

Kofi Kommando is an educational cartoon featuring five “ordinary” kids; Kofi, Adzo, Issah, Naa, and Keku.  The characters, in their own unique and creative ways, do extraordinary things for the education and advancement of children’s health and social well-being in Ghana.  The kids represent diversity and inclusivity in culture, language, and gender to attract, engage, and educate young people ages 6 to 16 years old on various public health and social development issues.

The premiere events were held in Yendi, Mion, Sangnerigu, Nalerigu, and Nadowli in the Northern and Upper West Regions to create interaction, engagement, and understanding of the key messages from each episode, targeted at both in school and out of school youth. USAID Ghana Mission Director Kimberly Rosen stated, “Children and their families will enjoy this fun cartoon series, and at the same time they will learn about important health topics like eating nutritional food, preventing malaria, and washing your hands regularly to help everyone stay healthy.”

The USAID-funded Kofi Kommando Season 2 series will air on TV3, JoyPrime, and YouTube starting in March. The series is part of the Ghana Health Service’s GoodLife, Live it Well campaign to promote healthy messages for all Ghanaians of all ages.
